We’re a Charlottesville institution and proudly serve simply delicious, casual food. We specialize in juicy smashburgers but offer many well-thought-out food options. This unique eatery is proudly owned and operated by the Shifflett family. Our casual walk-in service is great for large groups, families, and kids. Available for takeout AND eat in.

Went on a Saturday afternoon and it was full but not crazy busy. The prices are very reasonable. I got all fried food for my meal and my partner got a burger. The burger was good but I really think the fried foods are the highlights. The cheese balls were so good. They’re pepper jack cheese cubes battered and fried. Also had fried mushrooms which I loved.

Riverside is one of the best family diners I have had the pleasure eating at. The staff is patient and passionate about their diner. I went one time a few years ago and it too this day is my favorite place to eat dinner out or quick grab while coming home from work. I highly recommend the carrot cake it’s hard to find a good one that is moist, sweet, and they use natural ingredients.

You would never expect an unassuming place like this to be so great. We got there at 10:55 AM and there were already people waiting, which is a great sign. The food was excellent. The service was excellent. Even though it was as busy as it was, the waitress was very friendly towards us and even gave us recommendations of things to see around Charlottesville! Prices are very reasonable as well. Would definitely eat here again.

This was an amazing surprise for lunch. From the moment we walked in we received the best service from everyone who worked there. The prices were reasonable and the portions were good. Will definitely be returning when we are back in the area.

We have been coming to this restaurant for years! We live in Richmond but always make an annual trip for the apple orchard. One year we stumbled upon this cute restaurant and have gone back ever since. They are so kind, friendly, and welcoming and the food is sooooo good!! We love it there!

The food and selection of local beers aren’t the only things that make Riverside memorable – the staff here are so kind. The atmosphere is perfect, with great tunes on the radio and fun trinkets on the walls, but nothing can distract from the delicious smashburgers and the steaming hot basket of french fries. Recommend this spot to anyone visiting the area and looking for a filling and unforgettable meal.

My first time ever dining here was this past Saturday with my wife. She has eaten here before and told me this is the best burger place in the area. Upon pulling up I think to myself, “ man this place is tiny.” We walk in the door to see a thriving business that was packed with people, instantly I knew my wife was going to be right. The experience was 10/10 and I will definitely be returning every time I come to the area.
